ABOUT ME

My practice is part of a research-creation artistic approach.

Self-taught, I began by painting landscapes in watercolor for several years, before moving on to oil painting and an abstract, intuitive approach. Over the years, I gradually made art my primary occupation.

I have also been actively involved in the arts community and have served as executive in two visual arts organizations. I also am a member of the professional association REPAIRE (Regroupement des pairs des arts indépendants de recherche et d’expérimentation).

My work is featured on Facebook and Instagram (guy bessette arts) and in two collections of painting& poetry, Les mouvements intérieurs du paysage (2021) and Par son ouverture, mon cercle me respire (2023).

MY ARTISTIC APPROACH

My practice combines visual arts and narrative poetry. The paintings (all oil paintings) evoke different atmospheres suggesting an introspective stance. They feature an abundance of layered strokes, shaping spaces and creating contrasts that allow glimpses of light to shine through.

I discover each painting through a succession of movements in which something appears, develops, disappears, and is then reborn in a new arrangement, and so on, until the emotion contained within emerges. It is a process that usually take many weeks.

Each painting is accompanied by narrative poetry that emerges alongside the visual process, extending and deepening the viewer’s experience. Accompanying some of the paintings, short videoclips further enrich the practice, weaving together image and word into a single poetic gesture. Together, painting, poetry, and video offer different perspectives on a shared theme—meeting each other without seeking to illustrate or explain.
